A Clinical Research Of Eye-acupuncture Therapy In The Treatment Of Acute Gouty Arthritis

Objective: To discuss the curative, safe and adverse effects of the eye-acupuncture therapy that was used to treat the acute gouty arthritis, to search for a more safe treating method of traditional Chinese medicine.Methods: 57 patients suffering from acute gouty arthritis were recruited from wards of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of TCM. Subjects were divided randomly into two groups, 28 cases in acupuncture group and 29 cases in control group. The acupuncture group was treated by Eye-acupuncture Therapy, while the control group was treated by basic treatment. After the treatment, we would appreciate the curative effect and the adverse effect by assessing the scores of symptoms and physical signs , along with the laboratory indexes.Results:1. The total effective rate in the acupuncture group was 96.4%, while the control group was 96.5%, and there was no statistical significance between the two groups .2. The scores of symptoms and physical signs in the acupuncture group decreased one day after treatment , and there was obvious statistical significant between pre-treatment and one day after treatment (P< 0. 01)., while the comparison of the control group was not statistical significant. And in the aspects of scores in pain and obstruction of joint, there was obvious statistical significant between the two groups, (P <0. 01).3. The scores of symptoms and physical signs in the two groups decreased obviously after the treatment , and there was obvious statistical significant between pre-treatment and post-treatment (P< 0. 01). Compared with the control group, the score in swell of join decreased in the acupuncture group, and there was statistical significant(P <0.01).4. The BUA, ESR, CRP indexes obviously decreased in two groups after the treatment, and there was statistical significant (P < 0.01), while the comparison between two groups had no statistical significance.5. No abnormalities were found in the three routine examinations, hepatic function, renal function and blood coagulation, but one patient had abdominal distension in the acupuncture group, while three had stomach unwell in the control group. Safety rating for 2 class, so their adverse effects of the digestive system could return to normal without any special treatments, and all of them could keep on this research .Conclusions: The research showed that Eye-acupuncture Therapy could significantly improve the joint function of acute gouty arthritis in the early stage, with its light adverse effect, we could easily see its great clinical prospect.
