Objiective Through exploring the expression of E-cadherin(E-cad),α-catenin(α-cat)andγ-catenin(γ-cat)in pituitary adenoma,To investigate the relationship between E-cadherin catenin complex(CCC) and the invasiveness of pituitary adenoma,and offers theoretical and experimental evidence for studying invasive adenoma.Methods The expession of E-cadherin catenin complex was determined by immunohistochemistry in 45 cases of human pituitary adenomas by random sampling,including invasive adenoma 27 cases, noninvasive adenoma 18 cases and the relativity of their expression with hormone-producing,pituitary apoplexy and necrosis or cystoid change, tumor diameter were analyzed.Results The invasive group had a significantly lower expression of E-cad andα-cat than that of noninvasive group(x~2=8.551,P<0.01;x ~2=7.872,P<0.01).There was no statistical significance forγ-cat expression between the invasive group and noninvasive group(x~2= 0.359,P>0.05).Moreover,The expression of E-cad was significantly lower in endocrine inactive group than that in endocrine active group(x~2 =5.020,P<0.01).The expression ofγ-cat was significantly lower in the group with apoplexy,necrosis and cystis degeneration than that in the group without apoplexy,necrosis and cystis degeneration(x~2=4.294, P<0.05).the expression of E-cad andα-cat were significantly lower in high-grade pituitary adenoma group than that in low-grade pituitary adenoma group(P<0.01).Conclusions1.E-cad andα-cat is related to invasiveness of pituitary adenoma because of the reduction expression of them.2.E-cad is lower expression in nonfunctional pituitary adenoma than functional pituitary adenoma.3.The expression ofγ-cat was significantly lower in the group with apoplexy,necrosis and cystis degeneration than that in the group without apoplexy,necrosis and cystis degeneration,which indirect indicates the reduction ofγ-cat is related to invasiveness of pituitary adenoma.4.The expression of E-cad andα-cat were significantly lower in high-grade pituitary adenoma group than that in low-grade pituitary adenoma group,which indicates E-cad andα-cat are related to invasiveness extent of pituitary adenoma.The reduction expression of E-cad,α-cat andγ-cat are related to invasiveness and clinical pathological characteristics.They have significance to evaluate the invasiveness biological behavior of pituitary adenoma,and can provide evidence for instituting reasonable therapy scheme,judgging prognosis and assessing curative effect in clinic.
