Background and objectiveCerebral vascular disease has now been the world-wide disease that do harm to people's health. As to our country, the total number of people suffering from stroke has risen to 7 million, and there are 2.5 million people is going to have this kind of disease every year, about 2/3 of which are cerebral ischemia, and 2/3 of the survivals are disabled. Atherosclerosis is important in the molecular biological mechanism of cerebral infarction. The PWV is the velocity of the pulse wave from heart beat spreading along the arterial wall. The principle is as follows:in a cardiac cycle, pulse wave is initiated by the expanding of aorta wall which is distended by the blood from left ventricle, then spreading in a certain velocity to the whole arterial system. The PWV is depended on the mechanical character(viscosity and flexibility),geometric character(diameter and thickness of the arterial wall)of the arterial wall and the densities of the blood. As the elastic vessel is filled with incompressible fluid, the energy is mainly transmitted by the arterial wall. Therefore, blood vessel's function is the critical factor influencing the PWV.When adjusted the other factors that influence the PWV,the PWV mainly reflects the compliance of the arterial wall. The higher is the value of the PWV, the worse the compliance of the arterial wall.Detecting the PWV in a noninvasive manner has been proved to be an accuracy method of finding out the early pathological changes of the whole vascular system.Lectin-like oxidized low density lipoprotein receptor-1(LOX-1)is involved in the whole process of atherosclerosis, and the PWV also can reflect the modification of blood vessel's compliance at the early stage of atherosclerosis and arterial stiffness. On this view, the LOX-1 and the PWV might have correlations in acute stage of cerebral infarction. Soluble LOX-1 can reflect the expression of LOX-1 in vivo. The main objective of this research is to explore the relationship between the serum sLOX-1 level and the PWV.Object and Methods:58 cases with acute cerebral infarction and 30 people without cerebral vascular disease served as the control group. The area of the infarct lesion was measured according to the imageological method. The cerebral-femoral artery pulse wave velocity(cfPWV)was measured by Complior SP made in Artech-Medical Company,France;the concentrations of serum sLOX-1 were measured with Enzyme-Linked Immuno Sorbent Assay;and the serum LDL-C level was determined by direct method. Some clinical data of the subjects must be recorded, such as sex, age, the type of stroke, the infarct area and location in cerebral infarction patients were measured.Results:1.The PWV was(11.69±2.56)m/s in patients with cerebral infarction, (9.80±1.92)m/s in control group. There was significant difference between the two groups(p<0.05).In the subgroups of the infarction group, PWVswere(11.42±2.82)m/s,(12.02±2.36)m/s,(11.86±2.11)m/swith different types. There was no significant difference between them (p>0.05). 2.The concentration of serum LOX-1 was(42.92±6.41)mg/L in cerebral ischemic patients, which is significantly higher than(36.03±4.70) mg/L in control group(P<0.01).The serum LOX-1 levels were(42.69±6.88)mg/L,(43.77±4.88)mg/L and(41.46±8.44)mg/L in the acute cerebral infarction patients of various type. There was no significant difference between them(p>0.05).3.According to the result of the linear correlation analysis, the correlation coefficient(r)between PWV and sLOX-1 was 0.579(p<0.01).4.According to the result of the linear correlation analysis, the correlation coefficient(r)between PWV and LDL-C was 0.442(p<0.01).Conclusions:1.The PWVs of cerebral infarction patients are higher than those without cerebral vascular disease, but there is no significant difference between the subgroups divided according to the area of the infarcted lesions.2.The serum soluble LOX-1 level in the infarction group is higher than that in group without stroke, and there is no significant difference between subgroups.3.The PWV of the infracted patients is correlated with the serum sLOX-1 level.4.The PWV is correlated with the serum LDL-C in the patients with cerebral infarction.
