Objective: Hypertension is one of the common diseases which is risk factor to stroke and coronary heart disease. Cross sectional study was used to explore the prevalence and distribution of hypertension in Liyang for further suggestions to control and prevent hypertension.Methods: With cluster random sampling ,20 villages among 10 town of Liyang City were selected as the investigation fields. In each field, permanent residents lived over 2 years were investigated. Content of investigation were including age, sex, cultural degree, blood pressure, height, weight et al. T-test, chi -square test and multivariate logistic regression analysis were used for the analyses about risk factors.Results: (1) Total subjects were 4090, 1884 in male and 2206 in female. 856 were diagnosis as hypertension and the crude hypertension prevalence rate was 20.93%. (2) The multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that risk factors to hypertension in this population were including drinking and waist circle. (3)There were significant differences with prevalence of hypertension between age group, occupation and cultural degree. Subjectswith the highest educational level had the lowest prevalence rate of hypertension (11.65%). (4) There were significant differences with prevalence of hypertension in different regions.Conclusion: There were significant differenceswith the prevalence rates of hypertension between sex, age groups, occupation groups and culturaldegree groups. The risk factors of hypertension are drinking and waist circle in Liyang city. Further control and prevention of hypertension should including obesity intervention, quiting smoking and alcohol limitation.
