Objective:Hypertension is a common chronic disease with serious complications, such as apoplexy, coronary artery disease, heart failure, renal failure et al.In China, the prevalence of hypertension has increased quickly, improving economy and changed living habits maybe play a role.but the knowledge of this disease for patients themselves, receiving treatment rate and the control rate of complications in China are very lower than that in American(30.2%,24.7%,6.1%respectively in China vs.70%, 59%,34%respectively in American).Foreign researches found that health education was a new and effective clinic method to prevent and treat hypertension through increasing patient's health protection and medicine compliance. The aim of this study is to observe the effect of health education on inpatients of hypertension by using the MOS 36 item short form health survey(SF-36)and the health knowledge cognition survey. Methods:During 2003.3 to 2005.12,986 inpatients in our hospital were randomly divided into the intervention group and no-intervention group. There were 493 cases in each group.Patients in the intervention group were treated with medication and health education, but in no-intervention group, patients were only treated with medication. Then, the clinic data, blood pressure,SF-36 survey and health knowledge cognition survey were assessed before and after treatment. Results:no significant difference was found in each SF-36 scale between two groups(P>0.05);after treatment,no-intervention group patients scored lower on all SF-36 scales than intervention group, especially in bodily pain, role emotional and mental health(P<0.01);In intervention group, the health knowledge cognition survey score before education(4.89±1.72)was significant lower than that after education (7.98±1.94)(P<0.01);there was significant difference in blood pressure after treatment between two group(P<0.01).Conclusions:(1)health education improved hypertension patients'living quality and health protection, which could increase the effect of clinical treatment;(2)We also found that significant difference in blood pressure after treatment between two group.(3)SF-36 was a new clinical method which was useful in directing and evaluating health education in hypertension. The limitation of our study was no normal control group and more large-scale double-blind researches were need.
