Background: With the development of economy and society, the mean lifespan is becoming longer. So the proportion of the middle and the elderly is increasing. It brings a series of social problems, among which is overweight/obesity. Obesity not only limits people's actions, but also is related to many chronic disease closely and impacts quality of life. Though overweight/obesity does great harm to people's health, people have known less about it in China. Moreover, relative health education and other intervention methods are hardly found. Objective: To evaluate and compare the effects of two kinds of intervention methods as well as choose a better one. Methods: By convenient sampling, two communities were chosen from a district in Beijing, each community as a group and every group including 53 research subjects, health education and aerobic exercise intervention in group one, health education alone in group two. Baseline data were obtained before health education. There were three times of health education, once a week. After the first health education, researcher did aerobic exercises with group one and group two did themselves. Asking group one to record diary about exercise in the first month and phone them regularly. At the end of the third and sixth months, asking group one to record exercise diary for a week and getting relative data, but not requiring for recording diary in group two. Results: Compared with baseline data, body mass index(BMI), waist circumference (WC) and blood fat of two groups decreased significantly (P<0.05) , but high density lipoprotein (HDL) increased significantly (P<0.05) at the end of the third month. Compared two groups, WC, glycerine and low density lipoprotein(LDL) of group one were lower than that of group two (P<0.05) , but HDL is higher than that of group two (P<0.05) . By the end of sixth month, except blood fasting glucose, all the other index in group one decreased significantly (P<0.05) compared with baseline data. However, all the other index didn't show significant difference(P>0.05) except HDL in group two. Compared two groups, WC and blood fat(except HDL) of group one are lower than group two (P<0.05) , while HDL was higher than group two (P<0.05) .Conclusion: Health education is an effective intervention method, but its long-time effect is insignificant, while the effect of health education and aerobic exercise is significant not only in the short-time but also in the long-time.
