Objective To investigate the effects of glucocorticoid on the expression of insulin receptor in patients with asthma. Methods Twenty-two subjects with asthma were allocated, while twenty-two healthy volunteers were enrolled as control group.Total and differential count of leukocyte of peripheral blood, blood glucose concentration and expression of serum insulin and soluble insulin receptor were detected in all subjects.Pulmonary function was measured at the same time.In subjects with asthma, indicators as above were reviewed after one month inhaled glucocorticoid. Results The differential counts of peripheral blood eosinophil in subjects with asthma before glucocorticoid treated were higher remarkably than that in group of controls[(4.53±1.07)%vs(1.24±0.63)%,P>0.05].Relatived to before glucocortcoid treated, subjects with asthma have greater improvement in FEV1%pred,PEF%pred,and FEV1/FVC%(P>0.05) after glucocortcoid treated. The expression of insulin[(11.24±2.96 mIU/L and 10.30±2.16)mIU/L vs(13.75±2.59) mIU/L,P>0.05],and soluble insulin receptor[(2.74±0.46 ng/ml and 2.19±1.44)ng/ml vs(5.03±0.11)ng/ml,P>0.05]in serum in subjects with asthma after glucocorticoid treated were significantly decreased when compared with those before glucocorticoid treated. Conclusion Expression of serum insulin and soluble insulin receptor were significantly increased in patients with asthma.Inhaled glucocorticoid significantly improved pulmonary function in patients with asthma.Insulin and soluble insulin receptor in peripheral blood of asthmatics were inhibited by inhaled glucocorticoids.Level of expression of serum insulin and soluble insulin receptor in asthma patients were negatively correlated with their pulmonary function.
