Objective To observe between cerebral infarction and carotid atherosclerosis in different age groups with cerebral infarction. To guide prevention of cerebral infarction. Methods:The object of study are 441 patients with cerebral infarction in the The First Affiliated Hospital of AnHui Medical University In January 2005 to September 2008 . According to Age, the 441 were classified into young adults group, middle age group and old age group. To research the relationship between cerebral infarction and carotid atherosclerosis with three groups. Compare the difference in positive ratio, position, quality of carotid atherosclerosis plaque and cerebral infarction risk factors. The 441 were classified into first attack of cerebral infarction group and recurrence of cerebral infarction group. 107 cases with healthy physical examination as controls. Compare the difference in positive ratio, position, quality of carotid atherosclerosis plaque and cerebral infarction risk factors. Results:The positive ratio of carotid arteriosclerosis and atherosclerosis plaque were higher with age (P<0.05). In young and middle age group, the dominate risk factors were smoking and dyslipidemia (P<0.05). In old age group, the dominate risk factors were some chronic diseases like high blood pressure, diabetes and hyperfibrinogenemia. The positive ratio of carotid arteriosclerosis and atherosclerosis plaque in recurrence of cerebral infarction group were significant higher that in first attack of cerebral infarction group (P<0.05). The ratio of patient with high blood pressure, diabetes in recurrence of cerebral infarction group were higher than that in first attack of cerebral infarction group (P<0.05). The cholesterol level and FIB level in two case groups were significant difference from that of control group (P<0.05). Conclusion1 Carotid atherosclerosis is associated with cerebral infarction. Unstable soft plaque is substantial clause in people who have ischemic stroke of young aged. Monitoring car- otid arteriosclerosis has important significance to prevent cerebral infarction in people of all ages.2 High blood pressure, diabetes, smoking, dyslipidemia, hyperfibrinogenemia were ass- ociated with the formation of carotid atherosclerosis. Smoking and dyslipidemia were major factors in young and middle aged adult. High blood pressure, diabetes and hyperfibrinogenemia were major factors in old adult.3 Preventing the formation of carotid atherosclerotic plaque was distinctly important for prevention of cerebral infarction. The young and middle aged adult should cultivate good habits in life such as no-smoking, adjusting the lipid levels, et al. the old adult would control blood pressure, regulate blood sugar and fibrinogen level.
