| Objective To analyze the factors related to chronic hydrocephalus among patients with aneurismal SAH(aSAH).Methods 223 patients with aneurysmal SAH who were treated in our department between January 2007 and January 2010 were retrospectively studied. According to having chronic hydrocephalus or not, they were divided into hydrocephalus group and non-hydrocephalus group. The factors that associated with the development of chronic hydrocephalus were statistically analyzed. Results The incidence of chronic hydrocephalus was 16.1% in 223 patients with aSAH. The analysis of two groups showed that the factors included patients' age, Hunt-Hess grade, Fisher grade, aneurysmal location, intraventricular hemorhage and acute hydrocephalus had statistical significance (p<0.05), while gender, hypertension and operation (embolotherapy or clipping) had no statistical significance (p>0.05).Conclusions Hydrocephalus after aneurysmal SAH seems to have a multifactorial etiology. Old age, high Hunt-Hess grade, high Fisher grade, posterior circulation aneurysm, presence of intraventricular hemorrhage and acute hydrocephalus in patients prone to chronic hydrocephalus. More attention should be paid to the patients with the risk factors and they should be closely followed up for early diagnosis and therapy. |
