IntroductionWith the internationalization of higher education in China, Chinese medical education, having been gradually geared towards international standards and the progression of the educational reform in medicine, the scientific research of Back to Basics has been brought in the reform area of China medical education as the important way to cultivate the innovative ability and others.It has been put into trial and popularization.The scientific study of Back to Basics during the internship of medical education dates from the 1960s and 1970s.The idea is to do the purposeful teaching on the basic subjects for medical students when they enter or complete the teaching in the period of clinical practice. It includes the basic scientific training, the study of basic frontier knowledge and the teaching of basic and clinical combined studies, etc. It can broaden students' horizon, strengthen students'foundation, and then can reach the aim of educating students'innovative ability, scientific awareness and critical thinking, etc which can enable them to be better adapted to the demand of the society.From the beginning of the 1990s, the education field of our country began to study the teaching of Back to Basics during the exploration and practice of educative reform. We brought in the relative teaching content to the teaching schedule of the clinical medical students of 5-year,6-year,7-year and 8-year systems, based on the detailed conditions and demand of medical education.However, there is no systemic assessment and study on the teaching effect of Back to Basics. As the teaching content of the personnel training, it should be studied and concluded on the teaching arrangement and effect after being put into effect for a period of time. And then it can be reformed, adjusted and popularized.Based on the practice of Back to Basics of China Medical University, the gradual study and the assessment effect of this practice model will be a guidance and meaningful reference for the school. The students and teachers are the subject of teaching and direct participants of Back to Basics. This study, the attitudes and demands of teachers and students and the feedback of the effective assessment are important components of Back to Basics modelMethodA cross-sectional study and the method of cluster and random sample were conducted targeted on the students and faculty advisers who have attended the study of Back to Basics in 2006,2008 and 2009.It is composed of 158 students before studying, 59 students after studying and 61 faculty advisers.The centralized data was collected by a constructive questionnaire among the students before/after studying and faculty advisers.ResultThe questionnaire, which is designed to target on the students and teachers, is rationally constructed with reliable and obvious effect. It is fit for the demand of effective evaluation. The basic teaching requirement of Back to Basics was completed well. The basic scientific ability and the scientific awareness of students were improved and the students were individually educated. The good feedback was confirmed by the students and teachers. But the subjective and objective factors such as the teachers, students and organization, influence the effect of Back to Basics.The effect of feedback and appraisal system of Back to Basics was roughly built through the analysis and assessment of 3 questionnaires on the students and teachers. The students have the strong desire to improve their ability of scientific research through the Back to Basics and set the stage for the further development.The effect of Back to Basics is obvious. The basic scientific training, the scientific quality and scientific awareness of the students has been improved greatly. It is widely accepted by the participants, students and teachers. The teaching model and management is supported and confirmed by the students and teachers.Therefore it is necessary to enhance and popularize the Back to Basics model in the undergraduate education of medicine and simultaneously reach a better teaching effect, optimize and reform the organization. During the practice we should pay attention to motivate the subjective initiative of teachers, strengthen the guidance to different students and finally heighten the innovative ability and scientific level of the medical personnel.
