Objective Metabolic syndrome(MS) is that the cluster of risk factors, such as insulin resistance, glycometabolism block, dyslipidemia, central obesity and hypertension. MS was definited by WHO in 1999. In the light of different definitions, about 25 percent people is MS sufferers in developed countries. According to the CDS,China's MS patientes is about 14~16 percent of adult in city. This paper investigates the prevalence rate of metabolic syndrome and its various components in faculties of a university in Guangzhou, then carries on a project of comprehensive intervetion on MS sufferers, and gives some suggetions on exploring the therapy and recovery of metabolic syndrome on university faculties.Method 1 According to the data of annual health check-up in 2008, the paper researches the prevalence survey of MS. The standard of diagnosis is CDS standard in 2004. This study investigated 3030 faculties, in which 1478 faculties were male,1552 faculties were female. Participants' height, weight, systolic pressure(SBP) and diastolic pressure(DBP) were measured. Laboratory measurements included total cholesterol(TC), triglyceride (TG), high density lipoprotein (HDL-C),low density lipoprotein(LDL-C), fasting plasma glucose(FPG), and serum uricacid. The faculties' family medical history, high blood pressure(HBP), diabetes mellitus(DM), cardiovascular disease were also obtained. The faculties was divided into youth group(22~44 years old),middle aged group(45~64 years old) and elderly group(exceeding 64 years old).2 Questionnaire survey. The paper selectes 186 MS sufferers to comprehensive interventation for one year, then provides the questionnaire to the MS sufferers before and after the interventation, to investigate the participants'health knowledge, health-related behaviors, dietary behaviors.Examing the results of health check-up before and after the interventation, the paper analysis effects of comprehensive intervention on faculties. The dates of physical examination and questionnaire are analysed by SPSS13.0. The comparison on prevalence survey of MS in different gender and age group is researched by independent-samples t test and multivariable Logistic. Results This paper investigates 3030 persons,in which the male mean age is 49.6±16.0 years old,the female mean age is 47.9±15.6 years old. The overall prevalence is 11.0%, the male's prevalence is 12.2% and the female's is 9.9%. The prevalence rate is increasing along with the ages. There is significant difference between youth men and women in the prevalence rate, but no significant difference between middle aged or eldly aged men and women..Investigating the risk factors of MS, we can find that there is significant difference in the overweight, high blood pressure, dyslipidemia in youth and middle aged male and female faculties, and its prevalence rates increase slowly along with the age.Analysing the risk factors of MS(including①overweight,②diabetes mellitus,③high blood pressure,④dyslipidemia),the sequence is②+③+④>①+③+④>①+②+③>①+②+③+④>①+②+④according to the prevelance rate of all faculties. The percent of①,②,③,④in all faculties is 37.8%,31.2%, 20.0%,9.6% and 1.4%.The study selected 186 MS sufferers to comprehensive interventation in one year.We can find that the participants life style changed, for example, following the doctor's advice, bmicontrol, physical exercises, emotion regulation and routine monitoring. The diets style also had clearly changes in some MS sufferers. The status of people awareness in MS knowledge improved apparently afer inventation. Analysing the results of physical exercises, it can be finded that the metabolic measurements changed in various degrees. Conclusions In University, the prevalence rate of is very high among the middle aged and elderly faculties. The results demonstrate the comprehensive inventation is effective in improving the MS sufferers'life style, awareness of MS knowledge and metabolic measurements.
