| Objective: To explore the efficacy of needling Fengchi and Fengfu points, and to find a more rapid, convenient, efficient and less painful treatment method in the early period of peripheral facial paralysis. Methods: Totally 60 cases of peripheral facial paralysis were randomly divided into 2 groups of 30 cases in each group: the experimental group(acupuncture treatment of Fengfu and Fengchi points in the acute stage)and the control group(conventional acupuncture treatment). The therapeutic effect was evaluated by House Brackmann(H-B) facial nerve function appraisal hierarchy system and Symptom integral standard. The changes of pathogenesis condition before acupuncture and four weeks after acupuncture were observed and recorded. Results: The results of H-B facial nerve function appraisal hierarchy system: the total effective rate was 100%, the recovery rate was 80.0% in the experimental group, and the total effective rate was 96.7%, the recovery rate was 66.7% in the control group. The results of Symptom integral standard: there was not significant difference between the 2 groups (P>0.05), however, the total effective rate and recovery rate in the experimental group were higher than ones in the control group. The number of recovery days in the experimental group was smaller than one in the control group, the difference was significant (P<0.01).Conclusion: This study shows that the efficacy of needling Fengchi, Fengfu and distal points in the acute stage of peripheral facial paralysis is definite, moreover, it can shorten the course of acupuncture treatment. |
