| Objective: The present research aimed to test the influences of two methods—the umbilical moxibustion with herbal medicine or with amylum, on primary dysmenorrheal patients. The differential impacts were compared and described, and the function of medicine on the primary dysmenorrheal syndrome were evaluated. Also the mechanism of action of moxibustion umbilical was illuminated.Method: 63 primary dysmenorrheal patients were randomly assigned to two test groups, with 31 in the umbilical moxibustion with herbal medicine group and 32 in the control group. The observable symptom score before and after the treatment was recorded and compared. Results: Patients indicated positive effects after treatments in both group (P<0.05). In addition, the two groups were significantly different(P<0.05) in the curative effect of leg ache, diarrhea, and irritability in the first period of treatment, but did not indicated significant difference in the other periods(P>0.05).Conclusion: In regards of the curative effect of primary dysmenorrheal symptom, the moxibustion umbilical treatment indicated a significant effect, which was high in long-time effect and low in recurrence rate. The current research also found there was no significant different curative effect for subjects between the umbilical moxibustion with herbal medicine group and that in the control group. In addition, the umbilical moxibustion with herbal medicine method was far more advanced in ameliorating symptoms such as leg ache and irritability than the control group in the first period of treatment, while the symptom of diarrhea was better ameliorated in the umbilical moxibustion with amylum group. |
