Objective: Through collating and analyzing the prescription of depressive madness treating with acupuncture in ancient literature, this article sums up the high frequency acupoints. So it provides theoretical support for clinical application and research.Methods: Computer searches of"Medical Classics of China". Statistical analysis with the Microsoft Excel database.Result: In the ancient literature, the prescription based on single point; More and more multi-points prescriptions were used when it was near to modern times. Most adopted points located on Bladder meridian of foot-taiyang and Du meridian. Most of the chosed meridian was yang-meridian. The top five meridians were Bladder Meridian, Du Meridian, Stomach Meridian, Gallbladder Meridian, Small Intestine Meridian. The type of acupoints based on special point. The top three were Five Shu Points, Primary Points, and Connecting Points. Most of the points located on head, neck and limb. Doctors payed much attention to the function of points not to the acupuncture method.Conclusion: In the ancient literature, the prescription based on single point. Most adopted points located on Bladder meridian of foot-taiyang and Du meridian. The high frequency prescription of depressive:hou xi(SI 3), shen mai(B 62), yang gu(SI 5), hou ding(DU 19), qu chi(LI 11);The high frequency prescription of madness: jian shi(P 5), shen men(H 7), bai hui(DU 20), zu san li(S 36).
