Dragon's Blood has been used at least 1500 years in China. It has efficacy of eliminating stasis, relieving pain, hemostasis and promoting new growth of tissues. The chemical constituents of Resina Draconis are mainly flavonoids, and a few of simple phenols and triterpenoids besides. The flavonoids compounds of Resina Draconis are complex including dihydrochalcones, chalcones, polychalcones, flavanoids, homoisoflavones, flavanones, flavones and etc. The chemical constituents of Sanguis Draconis are mainly flavonoids and terpenoids. Dragon's Blood is known as effective medicine for promoting blood circulation. Modern pharmacology shows that the active constituents of eliminating stasis to activate blood circulation in Dragon's Blood are total flavonoids, which can be used as reference substance for quality control of Dragon's Blood.Single flavonoid is determined by HPLC for quality control of both Resina Draconis and Sanguis Draconis at present. Considering many pharmacological actions of Dragon's Blood are synergistic effect of total flavonoids that can't be reflected by current quality control method, so choosing suitable determination of total flavonoids in Dragon's Blood is important guarantee for its quality control. It is reported that total flavonoids have been used as index for quality control specification of Dragon's Blood, but the methods used still have many problems because total flavonoids in Dragon's Blood are complex and various. Chemical identification, TLC and UV scanning before and after coloration respectively with hesperidin and rutin as references were employed to investigate total flavonoids'style in two kinds of Dragon's it should make a difference in determination methods for total flavonoids in Dragon's Blood. Blood, which were confirmed to be different. Hesperidin was more suitable as reference. So...
