Applying general status questionnaire, SAS, CES-D and SSRS to investigate anxiety, depression and social support of 226 parents of children with congenital heart disease before operation and the relationships of anxiety, depression and social support. Adopting SPSS 13.0 software for the material descriptive analysis,T-test,variance analysis,chi-square test, multiple linear regressions and Pearson correlation analysis.Results:1.The mean score of parents on the SAS was 37.86±8.31.Their anxiety levels were significantly higher than normal (P<0.01). In 226 parents, there were 83 (36.7%) parents'SAS scores to exceed thresholds for clinical anxiety. The different anxiety scores existed in different sex, different eduation level, different level of understanding surgery, different children'age (P<0.05); Mothers, parents whose education level was junior high school or below and parents completely not understanding surgery reported higher incidence of anxiety compared with other groups.2. The mean score of parents on the CES-D was 20.75±8.81, it was significantly higher than the normal and exceeded thresholds for clinical depression (P<0.01).53.1% of parents had depression. The different depression scores existed in different sex, different income, different type of diseases (P<0.05). Mothers, low-income parents and parents of children with complex congenital heart disease reported higher incidence of depression compared with other groups (P<0.05)3. The mean score of social support in parents on the SSRS was 37.62±7.73. It was higher than the normal (P<0.01). The different subjective support score existed in different sex (P<0.05); The different objective support, support availability and social support scores existed in different professions (P< 0.05); The different objective support, subjective support and social support scores existed in different income(P <0.01); The different objective support score existed in different manners being funded for operation (P<0.05); The differen support availability and social support scores existed in different level of understanding surgery (P<0.05).4.The scores of objective support, subjective support and social support in non-anxiety group were significantly higher than in anxiety group (P<0.01);the correlation analysis between anxiety and social support showed:subjective support, objective support and social support correlated negatively with anxiety (P<0.01).5. The scores of objective support, support availability and social support in non-depression were significantly higher than in depression group (P<0.01); the correlation analysis between depression and social support showed:subjective support objective support and social support correlated negatively with depression (P<0.05).Conclusion:1. A high level of depression and anxiety existed in parents of children with congenital heart disease before operation. Parents of low education group, low-income group, completely not understanding surgery group, children under 3 years old group and complex congenital heart disease group were the specific groups at high risk for distressed.2. Before children with congenital heart disease would operate, the anxiety, depression and social support of parents were negatively correlated.
