Background: As one of ADR, drug eruption is a common disease in dermatology. The more new drugs introduced into the market, the more drugs are taken by patients. This contributes to more case of drug eruption. It should be paid more attentions to that, the drug eruption, which is acute, severe, and with a high mortality rate. Objective: In order to analyze the causative agents, the clinical manifestation and the therapy of drug eruption. Methods: 22 cases with drug eruption were collected from December 2008 to February 2010 in the department of dermatology, the First Affiliated Hospital, Shantou University Medical School. We analyze the general data, the causative agents, the clinical manifestation and the therapy of drug eruption. Results: (1)General data: 22 patients were enrolled in this study, 7 cases were male, 15 cases were female, and the gender ratio was 1:2.1. The age ranged from 10 to 60 years old. The average age was 33 years old. The latent period ranged from hours to more than twenty days. (2)Causative agents of the drug eruption were antimicrobials (9 cases), anti-epileptic drugs (3 cases), antigout agents(2 cases), propylthiouracil (1 case), antimicrobials or analgesics (2 case). 2 cases can't confirm the causative agent, and 3 cases only had the Chinese Herbal. (3)Clinical subtypes were as follow: drug-induced bllosa epidermolysis 8 cases, Steven-Johnson syndrome 2 cases, drug-induced exfolialive dermatitis 1 case, fixed drug eruption 1 case, morbiliform-scarlatiniform drug eruption 4 cases, and general pustulosar drug eruption 5 cases. (4)Treatment:①Stop of all potential causative drugs.②Intravenous fluid was used to promote the excretion of medicine.③Antihistamine, Vitamin C and Calcium Gluconate were used to treat allergic responses.④Corticosteroids (as prednisone 33mg-150mg/d) were used as the major treatment for drug eruption among the entire cases. We also used the intravenous immunoglobulin combined with corticosteroids to treat the patients in some cases.⑤Supporting treatment.(5)All patients are cured.Conclusions:①Drug eruption can happen to everyone at any age, the most common pathogenic medicine of drug eruption are antibiotics.②It should be paid more attentions to that drug eruption, which is acute, severe, and with a high mortality rate.③It is important to use reasonable dosage of glucocorticoid as soon as possible for drug eruption.④The effects of Immunoglobulins on patients with drug eruption are positive.⑤Compound glycyrrhizin also achieves positive effects on the patients with drug eruption.
