China is vigorously developing vocational education, and vocational education itself is undergoing reformation. The English teaching mission of vocational school is to train the students'basic oral English skills and cooperative abilities in association with their future occupations. Most of the students in vocational schools will face hunting for jobs after graduation, therefore English language teaching should be integrated to the society. The cooperative learning which is student-centered can increase the students'self-learning abilities .It is a well-worth exploration.At present, the situations of English teaching in vocational schools are: the English class is teacher-centered with old-fashion teaching methods, which leads to the students'lack of practice and cooperative opportunities as well as lack of the cultivation for comprehensive abilities. Therefore, the students can't form the passion and consciousness of learning.This thesis introduces the application of cooperative learning from a social constructivism perspective in vocational school's ESL Classroom. It mentions the definition and study of cooperative learning at home and abroad. Class 0902 and Class0903 are the research subjects .Class0902 is the experimental class, and Class0903 is the control class. The scores of the pre-test and the post-test of the two classes were analyzed by SPSS17. Two classes were interviewed by the questionnaire based on cooperative learning strategy.The study found the English level of the students with cooperative learning method had been improved. The students in cooperative learning environment formed the spirit of cooperation, independent thinking ability, and the innovation ability. It also strengthened the cohesion of class.This study hopes to provide some references for other secondary and vocational school English teachers when they use the cooperative learning strategies.
