The main purpose of the paper is to illustrate the theoretical principle underlying the multimedia CALL vocational college English teaching and to explore the reorientation of the teacher's roles in this new teaching model. The characteristics of China's traditional teacher-centered English teaching and the problems of such kind of teaching model are pointed out in the study. The multimedia CALL teaching model which consists of the computer technology and the Internet is introduced, and the necessity of using the multimedia CALL in the vocational college English teaching is also displayed in the paper. The guiding theory of the multimedia CALL English teaching is the constructivism theory, and the key point of the theory is that people construct the knowledge about the external world and develop their own cognitive structure when they interact with the surroundings. The guiding principles of the constructivism and its importance to the English teaching are mentioned, and there are some discussions of the teacher's roles under the multimedia CALL.Through careful empirical studies and data analysis, this paper makes an intensive study of the reorientation of teacher's roles in multimedia CALL environment. The teacher can play the role as a planner to prepare the whole teaching process; as a supervisor to supervise the teaching activity;as an organizer to organize the learning activity; as a prompter to encourage the students to take part in various activities; as a participant to take part in the learning as an equal;as an assessor to offer the feedback, and as a source to provide various information.Finally, the findings of this research and its implications to the reorientation of the teacher's roles are generalized, and at the same time, some limitations of the research are pointed out and suggestions for the further research are also offered.
