A Study On The Chinese Character Words System Of Irohajiruishō

This research, with linguistic materials from the Irohajiruishōwhich is a ancient dictionary of Japan's Heian period, makes an inquiry into Chinese character vocabulary of the Irohajiruishō. It consists of four chapters. Chapter I, we elaborate the original idea of the Irohajiruishō, make an introduction of the editions and the historical division of the book, of the value and the status, of the purpose and the materials of the research, of techniques of the thesis, and several other questions. Chapter II, we focus on the structure of the book, the Chinese character words'terms, the focal point of the study and some of the characteristics of Chinese character words. Chapter III, we describe the general picture of the Chinese character words. Irohajiruishōcontains the medieval times Chinese words, in which there are many Wei, Jin and Southern and Northern dynasty period terms, Tang dynasty terms and Song dynasty words. Chapter IV, we discuss the case of inheritance and variation of Chinese character words in different language backgrounds. Finally, we make a summary of the dissertation A Study on The Chinese character Words System of Irohajiruishō.
