Application Of Schema Theory To English Science & Technology Translation

With the advent and development of modern cognitive psychology, the concept of schema has been enriched, making it possible to be applied to the area of EFL research. Up till now, many researchers have applied Schema Theory to listening comprehension, cloze test, blank, etc. However the application of schema to EST translation is little. In order to enrich the application of Schema Theory to the EST translation field,this paper applied the Schema Theory to EST translating process which aims to make EST translation more accurate, complete and efficient. The author believes that activating the schema storied in the brain of translator, namely prior knowledge, and bringing their cognitive abilities into full play can achieve a better translation on EST translation.The aims of this thesis are to analyze the application of Schema Theory to translation of science and technology, investigate the roles of various schemas in EST translation, and suggest some effective ways to activate the schema in translating process. And the author expects that this thesis can provide richer and more effective theoretical guidance to technical translation, thereby improving the quality of technical translation. The main research contents of this thesis are the Schema Theory and the application of the theory to EST translation. The significances of this paper are: the author attempts it can widen the ken of the readers who are interested in schema theory, and the combination of the study of Schema Theory with EST transition may enrich theory of EST translation.This paper mainly adopts the qualitative analysis method. The author makes full of case study researches based on the broad and extensive learning of the works on the schema theory. The author expects that the study of this paper can provide richer and more effective translation methods to of EST translation. By means of the research and analysis directed by the schema theory, this paper provides the application of Schema Theory to EST translation and the ways to activate the schema in EST translation process. The author expects that by this paper,EST translation can made some breakthroughs in the field of schema theory, thereby improving the quality of EST translation continuously.
