| The thesis takes Huiyuan as the research object and it mainly researches his Buddhist ideas. Then it discusses his characteristics and Buddhist scriptures of pattering. The last part is his contributions to the Buddhism in China.Chapter one gives a brief description of the Huiyuan's experiences and his release processes from Confucianism to Taoism and at last to Buddhism. It tells from a Confucian young man to the opportunity for him to change into Buddhism at a background of social chaos, and then his retreat to Lushan, making Lushan became the center of Chinese Buddhism.Chapter two is the second important part of the article, which paves the way for the following research to Huiyuan. It discusses the various contemporary thinkings that Huiyuan has been influenced, which play an important role in forming his own thoughts. At first Huiyuan determined to assist his generation and bring comfort to the common people so he received authentic Confucian education from childhood, had a wide reading over Six Meridians and in particular Lao-Tzu and Chuang-tzu. At that time the rise of metaphysics made preparations for Buddhism in China. The further spread of Buddhism, including the Bodhisattva.have played a supporting role in forming the idea of Hui Yuan, while the influences from his teacher Daoan also cannot be underestimatedChapter three is the most important part in this thesis. It studies on Huiyuan's various thoughts, which include immortal, comeuppance, pureland of Amitabha, Dharmakaya and Dharmata, Bodhisattva.The idea of spirit immortal is the basis of all his thoughts, which found a reasonable footnote for comeuppance. His ideas of spirit immortal and comeuppance have a tremendous impact on offspring, because these ideas are rooted in traditional Chinese culture and they are blended with Buddhism. They constructed a theoretical Buddhism system in China, thus forming a Chinese style Buddhism. It solved the problems of practicing moral teachings and the crisis of faith.Chapter four summarizes the integration of theory and practice of Huiyuan and his foundation of sangha. In practice he tended to Western Paradise with recite Buddha, and took pratYutpanna and sukhavati—vyuha as the basis of Buddha. And the last part is Huiyuan's efforts and achievements for Buddhism in China.Chapter five is the conclusion. It summarizes the main contents of the foregoing, which not only affirms Huiyuan's position in the cultural history of China, and more importantly, he has played an important role in Buddhism of China. In the history of Buddhist thought, he is a master, serving as a link between past and future. |
