When coming to language learning process, teaching material is very crucial. Teaching material is the main foundation for teachers to teach and main basic for students learning process. Subject with which teacher should teach, subject with which student must learn, those are based by teaching materials. Thus, the quality of teaching material directly affects the teaching and learning quality. The teaching material quality itself is known by means of evaluation on the material.In this thesis, author chooses teaching material which was written by both Chinese and Indonesian writer"基础华语"part 1 as research object. Author is aiming to evaluate the teaching material of'基础华语"part 1 based on teaching material evaluation theory and basic principles of teaching material compilation. Author analyzes the material on 4 parts, which are phonemic, vocabulary, language structure, and Mandarin lettering. Phonemics analyzes phonemic content and its order in the teaching material. Vocabulary analyzes number of vocabulary, selection of vocabulary, order of vocabulary in teaching material, its explanation, and vocabulary repetition frequency. Language structure analyzes its selection of structure, order in teaching material, and its explanation. Mandarin lettering analyzes number of letter, choice of letter, order of letters in teaching material and basic knowledge of Mandarin letter, and lastly, analyze each practice section. From these 4 parts evaluation, weakness on the teaching material can be identified and be given suggestion to improve it.
