The Composite Research Of Monosyllabic Verbs In Modern Chinese Which Are Used As Resultant Complement In V-R Construction

Verbs and adjectives are ofen used as resultant complement of V-R constructions in modern Chinese. In this thesis, we research monosyllabic verbs which are used as resultant complement in V-R construction. Based on the achievements of researchers, this thesis tries to research three questions, containing restrictions of verbs which are used as resultant complement, disciplines of semantic orientation of the V-R constructions and phenomenon of Object.The first chapter is preface. It introduces briefly the purpose and significance of the topics, the theories, methods of research and selection of sources of corpus. In addition, it reviews results of previous studies.The second chapter describes and analyzes the characteristics of monosyllabic verbs from two aspects, containing autonomy and lexical features. Based on time course structure of verbs, we investigate lexical features of monosyllabic verbs used as resultant complement. If we combine autonomy with lexical features, we can find restrictions of monosyllabic verbs used as resultant complement.The third chapter describes the types of semantic orientation when verbs are used as resultant complements and tests semantic orientation. We analyze syntactic environment of different semantic orientation. Semantic orientation of resultant complement includes single orientation and multi- orientation. The chapter focuses on the description of three types of potential multi-orientation, and find results and restrictions of potential multi- orientation.In chapter four, with the theory of predicate verbs and complement verbs argument's same and different orientation relationship, we study the restrictions with object of V-R constructions in which monosyllabic verbs are used as resultant complements. We emphasize on different object types of V-R constructions, and explain the results of different object types and form process by theories of salient,conceptual structure and frame semantics.The last part is the conclusion. We raise questions in study and tentative plan of research.
