Dufu's Concept Of Woman

Dufu s concept on woman is a part of his whole concept of the society. This paper systematically analyses his attitude toward woman of various classes. The connotation of Dufu s idea is to respect woman, understand and show sympathy on their misfortunes and praise their virtues. He also holds an objective appraisal toward woman of noble class. By comparing the man-oriented idea since pre-qin period Du contemporary ideas on woman, the paper points out the development of Dufu idea that has broken through the prejudicial opinions on woman and enlightened the poets since mid-Tang period. The paper concludes that the humanity of Confucianism and the open cultural environment at that time are the two reasons that have influenced Dufu ideas.
