This thesis is composed of three parts. Based on the gathering and sorting of verb-complement made in the first part, the verbs which are commonly used as predicates (called as Verb1) and those used as consequent complements (called as Verb2) are selected out. With them analyzed from the perspectives of syllable, word meaning and semantic meaning, the major types of those which can be categorized into verb-complement and the restrictions on them are summed up. Then it is found that in the system of modern Chinese language, some verbs are inclined to express a process and thus more frequently used as the predicates of verb-complement, while others are more likely to state a result and therefore used as the complements of it.In the second part, the situation types of Verb1 and Verb2 are analyzed at first and then the situation types of verb-complement are classified. After tested by the three groups of semantic features:[±realization of results], [± continuation] and [±fixed terminal], three types of verb-complement are concluded, which are the verb-complement of the process of continuation, the one of completion after continuation and the one of instant realization. At last, the principles by which the verbs of different situation types are combined into verb-complements are expounded tentatively. In the third part of the thesis, the raising process of the argument of verb-complement as well as the valence of verb-complement are studied in detail. In light of these studies, it is found that generally speaking, the prepositions of 'Ba' and 'Bei' can alter the position of argument in the atomic sentence of verb-complement and by copying verb, the argument of the entity of Verbi can be led into the surface structure of the sentence composed of verb-complement. The verb complements in these two types of sentences are in complementary distribution.
