John Donne is one of the most original English metaphysic poets, whose poetry, famous for its conceit, wit, and novelty , sets up a new style of writing developing from Petrarch tradition. Full of artistic tension in image, emotion and motif, his poetry is like a fantastic flower in blossom on the Parnassus of English literature. The paper goes the tension of John Donne's inner heart through the transition and formation of his life circle and puts an emphasis on analysis of the multi-directed reflections of the tension of John Donne's poetry: language tension, emotion tension and motif tension which the text manifests. On the analysis of the tension of John Donne's poetry, the paper touches off considerably the tension of poetry expressed by the original icons; senses the emotional tension blending ration and emotion; handling the motif of unity and death which stands out in the poetry; knows about one consciousness metaphorizing the other, one life circle metaphorizing the other in the orbit of John Donne's life and cognition; understands the dynamic balance in search of his survival in his fissile of ambition and reality in order to look for his invariable pursuit; and then perspectives the culture behind the tensional article, relating to the dramatic social change during Renaissance in the seventeenth century, and social and cultural condition in the beginning of Humanist crisis. The end of the paper comes to the extending time and space tension of John Donne's poetry, namely, the difference between Petrarch's poetry and the influence to the following poetry. John Donne's poetry is just like a drop of water dripping on the silent face of a lake, poppling, bounding and prancing its balanced point, and then falling into the water, rousing ripples in a ring, which appears to be beautiful lippers on the lake. John Donne's poetry has affected the literary history, and has been finally acknowledged and accepted by the people, in the way it finds the position of its worth.
