Code-switching and code-mixing have been arousing much attention in recent years. With the deepening of reform, advancements in 'open-up' policy, and under the effects of globalization, the world is getting smaller and smaller which is being recognized in every aspect of life. Language is the carrier of culture and a product of society, therefore language is giving rise to trends in its own way. The popularity of code-switching and code-mixing is a good case in point. On one hand, the widespread use of code-switching and code-mixing introduces frontier knowledge at the highest speed possible; enriches daily language, and helps English gain ground among the widest group of people. On the other hand, foreign culture brought in along with foreign languages is creeping into our life. The negative influence of widespread of code-switching and code-mixing in daily language is manifested not only as the latent possibility of native language contamination, but also as the latent possibility of native culture contamination. At the same time, the increasing importance of learning English as a global language has emerged as the embodiment of globalization in education. However, a common impression of learning English is, "English is hard for beginners, but becomes easy gradually". The first concept that comes to mind upon describing language learning is the mechanical memorizing or learning without comprehension. How to ease the tension associated with language learners is an imminent task facing all language teachers. In the unebbing tide of education reforms, bilingual education and communicative language teaching stand as a lasting focus. Proper localization of borrowings deserves our minute consideration. Detailed introduction of bilingual education and communicative language teaching with much importance on the accompanying problems in the actual application is given. Two important concepts that arose from this issue are code-switching and code-mixing. Thus, the joining point of the present bottleneck in English teaching and learning and a much discussed point of attention in sociolinguistic world is accordingly appeared: code-switching andcode-mixing as a whole.Sociolinguistics is a practical inter-disciplinary science fairly closely related with daily life. Among its miscellaneous applications, the application with regards to education ranks as an important one.Choosing code-switching and code-mixing as our focus of attention, an attitude of relieving instead of stifling, based on careful analysis is adopted to serve English teaching and learning. Different from existing research, the target research group in the dissertation is students of primary school and middle school and English learners in general.Starting from a detailed analysis of code-switching and code-mixing, a refining of code-switching and code-mixing is hoped to be achieved through an understanding of the deep working mechanism behind the phenomena and thus to fully apply the merits whilst avoiding the negative influence on one's native tongue.Adaptation theory, face theory, linguistic market, W. Schramm's mass dissemination process mode and Malezke mass dissemination process model are helpful theories in the understanding of code-switching and code-mixing. The hypothesis that "the application of code-switching and code-mixing is applicable to English teaching and learning among primary school students, middle school students and English learners outside of a school environment" is tested in a series of scenarios. Based on the results of the series of tests, the benefits and the drawbacks of the application of code-switching and code-mixing in English education are discussed with the help of related theories. The benefits are further researched applying concepts and theories like conformity, motivation theory, positive transfer, interlanguage, fossilization and experiential training consecutively. While devoting much effort in the research of the benefits of the application, a fair effort is given to the study of the possible drawbacks which is probed thro...
