| Lu Zhi was not only a pivot in political history of Tang dynasty, which is known to all, but also played a decisive role in the history of literature of Mid-tang Dynasty, of which modern scholars have taken little notice and few academic articles takes "memorial to the throne by Lu xuangong" as literary textual. This paper will give a thorough discussion on Lu Zhi and his role in the development of literature of Mid-tang Dynasty, and show the significance of Lu Zhi and his writings.The author will give his opinions on several aspects:The first chapter is a textual research on the life story of Lu Zhi, which is consist of three parts: l.discussied on the time when Lu Zhi passed the highest empirical examinations, which Quan Deyu and Han Yu thought was in his 18 years old and Chao Gongwu argued it was in the 8th year of Dali. The author agreed to the time when Lu Zhi was 16 years old, the 6th year of Dali period. 2. By dividing his life into three stages, the author studies as fully as possibly other literati and officials who kept company with Lu Zhi and reveals true living state of Lu Zhi at that time, which helped to study the origin of his writing style. There are three periods: before the chaos in Jianzhong years, the time when Lu Zhi assisted on prime minister, and the time when he was a prime minister. 3. The author explains comparatively reasonably the time and motive of Lu Zhi's being a scholar of imperial academy.The second chapter is on the "Dragon and tiger announcement" and ancient literature movement in Mid-tang Dynasty. In the 8th year of Zhenyuan, when Lu Zhi was an official in military ministry, he accepted the proposal of Liang Su, Cui Yuanhan and made Han Yu, Li Guan, Ouyang Zhan successful candidates in the imperial examinations, which was called "dragon and tiger announcement" this year. The author mentions that "dragon and tiger announcement " had finished a generation hand -down of the reform of writing type and style in Mid-tang Dynasty, which the thought of reform has hand down from Lu Zhi, Liang Su to Han Yu, Li Guan.The third chapter mainly discusses the relation between "memorials to the throne by Luxuangong" and literary of Mid-tang dynasty. The first part cards the development of the rhythmical prose in Tang dynasty before Lu Zhi. The second part dwells on the artistic achievement of "memorial to the throne by Luxuangong".
