Nowadays, more and more researchers start to pay attention to students'ability of self regulation, namely the importance of metacognitive strategies that play in the learning process. However, many learners are not aware of what important role that metacognitive strategies play in their learning process and also do not know how to develop their metacognitive strategies. The thesis tries to prove the positive role that metacognitive strategies play in the learning process both in theory and in practice. Theoretically the thesis adopts the theory of metacognition and the metacognitive learning framework point out by Wenden and Wen Qiufang. The English learning and teaching in our country lack the strategy training model integrating theory with practice, therefore the thesis takes CALLA model as means to improve learners'oral English and tries to design the classroom model on the basis of CALLA. The thesis has proved the positive role that metacognitive strategies play in improving learners'autonomous learning ability both in theory and in practice. The significance is to prove that in order to improve learners'autonomous learning ability, we must develop learners'metacognitive strategies.
