The development of materials design in language teaching is accompanied with the development of Applied Linguistics. Moreover, materials design mirrors the main thoughts in language teaching and language pedagogy. Researches in some linguistic disciplines, such as Psycholinguistics, Cognitive Linguistics and Text Linguistics, etc., give a fresh impetus to select and evaluate teaching materials. In recent years, a consensus is reached on in language teaching in China—language teaching encompasses not only a level of how to teach linguistic forms (vocabulary, grammar, sentence), but also a higher level of how to teach discourse to learners. Text Linguistics is of vital significance in Applied Linguistics. Its central focus is the communication in real linguistic context. Text Linguistics outlines the correlation between language forms and semantic meanings, the interconnectedness of language use and context, the interaction among language users and the linkage between linguistic culture and ideology.Teaching materials, being the carrier of disciplinary knowledge, serve as one of the most important components of classroom teaching.
