| With the development of the world's economy and technology, the globalization process of the whole world is fastened day by day, which have brought about sweeping changes in the world. Immigration is a phenomenon that lasted for centuries along with the process of globalization.Canada and America, neighborhood as they are, are typical immigration countries. Both are multi-ethnic and multi-cultural. In Canada there are immigrants from other parts of the world, so does America. They have attracted large quantities of scholars' attention on the research of their immigration policies. Trying to dig out the similarities and differences, this thesis will compare and contrast the two countries' immigration policies. Also multiculturalism in Canada after the 9/11 attacks is analyzed. Under the enlightenment of multiculturalism, the thesis further discusses building Chinese ethnic minorities relationship in current international background. The aim of the author is to find some enlightenment for China to build solidarity and harmonious society.This thesis consists of four chapters. Chapter 1 is an introduction, which discusses the factors in facilitating immigration, and the necessity to compare the immigration policies of Canada and America. Chapter 2 is a literature review, together with some relevant theories. Globalization is presented at first. Then follows the introduction of multiculturalism and assimilation. At last come the Canadian and the American immigration policies. Chapter 3 gives description of the two countries' immigration policies. Both advantages and disadvantages are analyzed, which will facilitate the comparison and contrast to find out their similarities as well as discrepancies. Chapter 4 is the conclusion of the thesis. It discusses the implement of multiculturalism to Chinese social construction when more and more labors swarm into cities and metropolitans. Also the limitation of the thesis is admitted. |
