In the history of the foreign language teaching development, the main method of foreign language teaching had been Grammar-Translation Method before 1960s. But later on, scholars and teachers had found that there was the shortcoming of the method: high marks but low capacity. From 1970s, many new teaching methods sprung up. Most of them, taking Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) as an example, were put forward against the Grammar-Translation Method; therefore grammar was given gradually the cold shoulder in language teaching. However in 1990s many researches have revealed the weaknesses among these "advanced" teaching methods. As a result, scholars and teachers began to explore new ways to teach foreign languages.The author has summed up the pioneers' researches and various language teaching and learning theories. He believes that grammar is the essential part of language teaching and learning. But it should not mean a return to the traditional Grammar-Translation Method rather than applying the advanced constructivist theory to grammar teaching. Although the constructivist theory has been used in language teaching or learning, there aren't many reports about the application of constructivist theory in language grammar teaching or learning. In this way students will learn grammar through actively in a carefree atmosphere and they will acquire the language as soon as they take the reins of the grammar rules.
