English grammar is a very important part of English teaching and a difficult point in English learning.The logicality of grammar is especially difficult for the primary school students who have a short time in contact with English and have a dominant image-based thinking.Even for the senior pupils,the learning of English grammar poses a challenge to the teachers.Constructivism learning theory is a theory of teaching and learning based on constructivism.It respects students' subjectivity,emphasizes the process of learning,and pays attention to the relationship between knowledge and students.Therefore,this study attempts to apply the constructivism learning theory to the grammar teaching in upper grade primary school students,through literature,observation,interviews and other research methods,it reviews the current situation and trend of English grammar teaching in primary schools abroad and at home,it also reviews the research status of English grammar teaching based on constructivism learning theory.It elaborates the significance and characteristics of English grammar teaching based on constructivism learning theory.At the level of meaning,this study suggests that constructivism learning theory opens the way between known knowledge 'and unknown knowledge in English grammar teaching,breaks the separation between learning grammar and using grammar,promotes the shift of emphasis from teaching to learning,and establishes a deep meaningful link between grammar and students themselves.At the level of the characteristic,this study suggests that the application of constructivism learning theory in grammar teaching requires the following characteristics:the relevance of knowledge,the equality between teachers and students,the process of learning and the richness of results.This study presents the basic principles and teaching models of English grammar teaching based on constructivism learning theory.As far as the basic principles are concerned,English grammar teaching based on constructivism learning theory should follow the principles of subjectivity,difference,appropriateness and dynamic.As far as the teaching mode is concerned,this study proposes three teaching modes based on constructivism:promoting construction with guidance,creating learning with situations,and introducing thinking with evaluation.This study carries out some specific teaching designs from the teaching mode,which is implemented in English classes and reflected in the implementation process,thus realizing that English grammar teaching based on constructivism learning theory needs careful preparation in the specific implementation process,such as pre-class preparation,changing educational attitudes,creating a equal and relaxing classroom atmosphere,and a perfect design and organization.
