Brief Inquiry To The Nanyin Music In The Republic Of China Period

The Republic of China period has been a very special time for the development of Nanyin because it inherits the tradition and characteristics of the development of Nanyin from the feudal age and to some extent influences the groundwork and direction of the development after the founding of the People's Republic of China. Taking Quanzhou Nanyin as the principal part of study, the Republic of China period as the time of study; and from the view of music, history, literature, sociology, and folklore; and in virtue of documents and resources in the internet as well as references and results from the civilian investigations, the present article attempts to probe into the venation and its characteristics of development of Nanyin in the Republic of China period and expects to open out from one angle the secret of the unceasing development of Nanyin, by looking back at the development of three main parts of Nanyin (ZHI, PU, AND QU), and the prosperity of Nanyin society and documents publishing, and the contribution of Nanyin artists, the correlating development of Nanyin with MinNan traditional drama, music, and culture, and the spreading of Nanyin, and the application of Nanyin in folk-custom.
