Mencius is an important literature of the school of Confucianism in the period of Early Ch'in, the art and achievement of this book is also outstanding among the various masters' works. This essay is aiming at probing into the debate art of Mencius, and this essay is divided into five chapters.In the Beginning of this essay, the person of Mencius and the information about his birth and deceased date will be referred. The research condition of All previous dynasties on the debate art of Mencius .Chapter one. Debate on the trend of thought in the dynasty of spring & autumn and battled nation.Section one, the general situation of the debates in the period of MenciusSection two, the adopy of Mencius debate themes. study from the following two aspects: debate on the profit and justice;debate on the fame and facts.Chapter two. The individuality and temperament of the Mencius debates and the objects of the debate. the individuality and temperament will be discussed from two facets,"zhiyan" and "yangqi". the objects of the debates are divided into two parts, Mencius with the leuds king and with the common leuds.Chapter three. The style and techniques of the debate. (1) Restrain power for eruption; leave somebody at large in order to apprehend him afterwards. (2) Seize the key points; attack the weak points. (3) Good at setting up the trap. (4) Use allegory to support the point view. (5) Do well in using figuration and line. (6) Make full use of the scripture to break away from the hot water.Chapter four. Comparison with the debate art of the various masters' proses. (1) Comparison with Maozi; (2) Comparison with Zhuangzi; (3) Comparison with Xunzi; (4) Comparison with Hanfeizi.Chapter five. Analysis on the influence to the afterworld of the debate art of Mencius.
