As one of the independent thinking's representative personages, Fang yurun inherited and had developed his senior Yao jiheng's spirit of the independent thinking during the period for the study on the book of songs in the Qing Dynasty. In Fang yurun's book, he criticized the Foreword of Mao Shi and The Collected Comments For The Book of Songs, he even criticized Yao jiheng's All Discusses For The Book of Songs. Fang yurun also noticed The Book of Songs' literature value, he made so much splendid and vivid appreciation about The Book of Songs in the literature's category. So regardless of studying on the Study of Confucian Classics or literature, Fang yurun made so much achievement in the study on The Book of Songs. But in the Study of Confucian Classics' category, Fang yurun could not get rid of the fetter from the traditional thought completely. He criticized the senior while he received the mistakes too. And Fang yurun noticed The Book of Songs' literature value, but it was just a minor part in his study on The Book of Songs. So as the splendid and vivid appreciation it was, it still could not take the main direction in Fang yurun's study, studying on the Study of Confucian Classics was still the main direction in Fang yurun's study. So Fang yurun's study on The Book of Songs was the combination of the innovations and the traditions. Both the social factors and individual reasons led to the dualism in Fang yurun's study on The Book of Songs. Generally speaking, Fang yurun brung a fresh vigor to the study on The Book of Songs duiring his time. He also gave so much enlightenment to t the posterity. So The Primitive For The Book of Songs was really an excellenct wrok in the history of the study on The Book of Songs.
