ObjectivesTo study the executive function characteristics of grade 5 children in primary school using experiment method, to observer the learning strategies'improvement on executive function. To explore the influence factors on executive function based on previous researches.Methods36 children of grade 5 were selected and the characteristics of their updating, inhibiting and shifting abilities were explored. These children were intervened using learning strategies for solving application problems, the availability of intervention were verified by the grades and the times they spent to solve application problems before and after intervened. The independence test of three executive functions were performed using Kendall'coefficient of concordance, and three executive functions before and after intervened were compared using paired-samples t test.Results1,There were no significant correlations among the three executive functions.2,The shifting ability after intervened significantly improved compared with that before intervened, while the updating and inhibiting abilities had no significant differences.Conclusions1,The updating, inhibiting and shifting abilities of grade 5 children in primary school are independent, and they are developable and instable . From the results of our statistics, we found the shifting ability of grade 5 children is significantly lower than that of undergraduate students as well as adults. The updating ability of grade 5 children is also significantly lower than that of adults, well the inhibiting ability has almost reached the level of adults.2,Intervention of mathematics learning strategies can improve the shifting ability of grade 5 children in primary school.
