Research On The Relationship Of Psychological Help Seeking And Social Support With Mental Health Of The College Students

In recent years, the issues of college students' mental health had being attached great importance by people from all works of life. As was proved by many researches,There are the close relationship among the social support and the psychological help seeking with the mental health . In view of these facts, this article try to explore the relationship of college students' social support, psychological help seeking and mental health ,how to interact and affect among the psychological help seeking, social support and mental health conditions and its internal mechanism.In these researches,734 college students of four year systems undergraduate courses in the school were selected as subjects from the Inner Mongolia Normal University, the Inner Mongolia University, the Inner Mongolia agricultural university, the Inner Mongolia industrial university and the Inner Mongolia financeand economics institute. The measuring instruments used in this research include SSRS (Social Support Rating Scale), compiled by Xiaoshuiyuan;SCL一90 (Symptom Checklist 90) and the questionnaire of college students' psychological help seeking , compiled by myself.This research has proved that:(1) The mental health state of college students is not up to the standards in general.College students' mental health states does not vary with gender, nation, grade, origin ,speciality,siblings or the single child. (2) The social support of college students varies with such factors as nation,gender, grade, speciality,origin. In the objective support ,Mongolian college students show higher scores than the Han group,the difference is significant. In the subjective support ,Han college students show the significant higher scores than the Mongolian group; In the using of support, the Female students show higher scores than the male group;Each of grade show the significant difference in the objective support, the subjective support, the total scores of social support .thereinto, in the objective support,juniors show the significant higher scores than sophomores. In the subjective support, freshmen show the significant higher scores than sophomores and juniors , seniors show the significant higher scores than juniors. In the total scores of social support, freshmen show the significant higher scores than sophomores;The students of arts show higher scores than those of science in the subjective support,using of support and the total scores of social support, the difference is significant; In the objective support,the city-sourced students show the significant lower scores than the countryside-sourced students.but, in the subjective support,the city-sourced students show the significant higher scores than the countryside-sourced students.(3) The students with more positive psychological help seeking will have healthier mental states and better social support system.the female student's psychological help seeking level are higher than the male group. the students with the different psychological help seeking level exist the difference in the objective support,the subjective support, the using of support and the total scores of support. the students with the low score, namely the students of the healthy group are better in social support conditions.(4) The college students that with the different mental health level have the extremely significant difference in the other dimensions and the total scores of the psychological help seeking besides in the dimension of the positive seeking help wish and the the positive seeking help wish cognition.(5) There are the significant correlation between the social support and the each of dimension of mental health, There are also the significant correlation between the psychological help seeking and mental health,the each of dimension of the psychological help seeking and the social support become the obvious variable that affect mental health.(6) The psychological help seeking may forecast the mental health directly ,Although the society support can not forecast the mental health directly, the society support has the significant forecast to the psychological help seeking, namely the society support affect the mental health level indirectly under the psychological help seeking regulate.
