A Study On The "N+V" Modifier-head Construction In Contemperary Chinese

The study on"N+V"modifier-head construction in contemporary Chinese still stays in an initial state. The qualitative analysis on it is not based on one system. First, there is an argue about the Construction on its circumscription because there is case system in"N+V"modifier-head construction while this construction can contribute to the"NVN"compound word .Second, there is disfigurement on the study on the limiting factor of this construction because there are lots of exceptions on the rules which has given, while the study on the construction whose N is not the patient-case is totally blank.This thesis compares the three correlative construction"Nçš„V","N+V","NVN"in order to give a clear analysis on the circumscription and the limiting factor of the"N+V"construction. Using case-theory and the theta theory to find the possibility of the syntax rules in the construction, we found that there is no regular rules on the limiting factor. The thesis then gives a description on the distributed representation and the semantic feature of the"N+V"modifier-head construction and gives some reasons to support that this construction is compounded using word-formation rules. The thesis also provide some new features of the construction which expands very quickly in recent years.
