New Queer Cinema as a special part of American Independent Film appears around the end of 1980s and the beginning of 1990s. Queer film-makers put social problems into their films, showed new queer images which were different from the past on the screen. These films are full of personal characters and profound meanings, the images are filled with enthusiasm. New Queer cinema led to strong repercussion in both film critics and the audiences, which helped the American Social pay attention on the Queer and gave them more understanding and acceptance. Meanwhile, Hollywood followed with interest in Queer subjects. To accompany with the Queer social status getting better and the development of American Cinema Industry, the content and the expression way of the Queer Cinema is closing to the mainstream, the independent spirit is diminishing. Most films of New Queer Cinema have the characters of mainstream film around 2000, they have farewell the edge.The paper first gives detailed explanations to the keywords, then takes three chapters to expound beginning, changing and entering mainstream of New Queer Cinema. In every chapter, social culture and film industry will be focused as important background, then New Queer's special characters will be discussed, film analysis will be taken as a concrete example to show the characters. The fourth chapter will discuss the contribution to the American film image and film critic, as a summary, this chapter also sums up the circumstances of New Queer Cinema around 2000.The research on New Queer Cinema is also a research on the development of American film in 1990s on a special angle of view. From the research, I try to reveal the objective laws between social culture circumstance, film industry development and the film-art creativities.
