Shi Guwei is a famous work of studies of Confucian classics, The Book of Odes, written by Wei Yuan. And this dissertation provide three approaches to analyse this important work: The background of Wei Yuan's times and his other works, the rectification on Mao's explainations of The Book of Odes, Wei Yuan's methods and his thoughts of poetics, used in his work, Shi Guwei.Chapter one gives a brief introductiono of Wei's background of times, and his other works. Then the significance of his Shi Guwei.Chapter two gives the detailed analysis of his rectification on Mao's explainations of The Book of Odes, that is, first, the corrections on some Odes's basic information, such as times, titles, authors etc.. Second, the rectification of Mao's prefaces of the Odes, Mao's analysis of the Odes, Zheng Xuan's analysis of the Odes. Third, the rearrangement of the Odes orders by their times.Chapter Three gives some analysis on Wei Yuan's methods of interpretation and his thoughts of poetics. With some advanced points, his paradox of his methods and thoughts should be noticed.The last chapter points out Wei's status in the research history of The Book of Odes. That with his shortages and limits, he still presents many useful viewpoints. He is the last person of the traditional school in the research history of The Book of Odes. And he is one of the forerunners who broughts the more scientific thoughts from the western worlds. And his efforts on the book of Shi Guwei, with his other books, have had a strong influence on his society.
