The female writers as new immigrants from China to the Europe or the America have felt the difficult circumstances. So they want to use the imagination of the ancient China to against the Orientalism from the West. But their texts still turn into the Self-Orientalism. This thesis takes Yan Ge-ling and Hong Ying for example to appear the Self-Orintalism in female immigrants' texts, with study methods of post-colonialism and feminist criticisms. And this thesis also takes Ha Jin's texts to compare different gender's view in the Self-Orientalism of the Chinese. The part of Introduction includes some defining of concept referred in the thesis. It also introduces the actuality of the research on this theme and the characteristics of this thesis. In Chapter One, I'll pay more attention on the Orientalism and the Self-Orientalism, including their history and their definition. The Chinese also join in the foundation of the Orientalism imagination. In Chapter two, I want to present the Self-Orientalism in Hong Ying's texts, including some aspects: the Chinese Legend of Shanghai, the adoration of the mystery religion and the exaggerated description of Chinese women's sex ability.Chapter Three is the analysis of the Self-Orientalism in Yan Ge-ling's texts. Her texts are full of nervous mood about immigration, and she has built up a sacred fairy as female immigrants' spirit.Chapter Four is about Ha Jin's texts. In his texts, there are red China without freedom, castrated men and sexual women as spectacular. I also explain how the global business influences the writing of the new immigrants.Chapter Five is the analysis of different genders' view in the Self-Orientalism.In the part of conclusion, I have a thought about the exit of the Self-Orientalism in the new immigrants' texts. This is to define the boundary of the individual and the nation, so that we can see the reality of modern China without still view or essential imagination. It may be the way to build up the Self-sufficient individual in between the nation and the gender.
