Course and teaching material depends on each other. Chinese newspaper reading lesson is opened in the advanced stage of Chinese learning. The teaching material is used for the students who have the higher Chinese level to study in the school, to improve their learning or to learn by themselves.According to the course attribution, the teaching position of Chinese newspaper reading lesson belongs to the language lesson; according to the class-based attribution, it is a special specialized target language course. The reason is that Chinese newspaper reading lesson is the supplement to the intensive reading course is the extension of listening and speaking, is relied by cultural teaching. The major teaching purpose of Chinese newspaper reading lesson is to cultivate Chinese learners'language skills and newspaper reading abilities. This can also help Chinese learners understand Chinese and cultivate their cross-cultural communicative competence.Chinese newspaper reading material has its own features in language, style and content. The features in language are that there are more new words, more abbreviations, more written words, more literary words, more fixed sentences and the sentences are long. The features in style lie in the structure, the title and the form. The features in content shown as the quality of painstaking, factuality, practicality, science, information, the combination of time effect and stability. The current newspaper reading material for Chinese learning in the advanced stage is classified into two types, on the one hand, according to the usage, it is further divided into intensive reading and extensive reading; on the other hand, from the perspective of skills training, there are special skills training materials and multi-skilled training materials.The quality of teaching materials related to the quality of teaching. Nowadays, there are not so much investigations on the teaching material of Chinese newspaper reading. There is not specialized research that studies the teaching material of the advanced Chinese newspaper reading. This paper takes"Newspaper Reading Course"and"New Chinese Newspaper Reading Course (Advanced Edition)"as the research object and makes a comparison between them. The author concludes the advantages and disadvantages, and proposes the compiling recommendation and teaching suggestion of the material.The contrast analysis of the two teaching materials mainly concentrates on three aspects:Firstly, in the comparison of the compiling system, the author compares the whole frame and the unit frame of the two materials.Secondly, in the comparison of content, the author compares the two materials in four aspects that related to intensive reading texts, knowledge information, classroom practice and extensive reading texts. The comparison of intensive reading texts includes subject, style and source. The comparison of knowledge information is mainly about the vocabulary, notes, commonly used newspaper words and structure.The comparison of classroom practice concerns the forms of the exercises. The comparison of extensive reading texts includes the passages, new words and the exercises.Thirdly, there are three aspects in the comparison of the layout designing, that is the processing and compiling of the texts, the display of the knowledge and the designing of the illustration.By the comparison, the author concludes the advantages and disadvantages of the teaching materials. The advantages lie in the broad subjects, the rich knowledge, the overall practice designing, the combination of the intensive reading and the extensive reading, and the various layout. The disadvantage is that it lacks interesting in the subjects; the notes of the new words are incomplete; it lacks supporting materials; it lacks introduction of the skills in newspaper reading; it lacks supporting phase exercises.Lastly, the author suggests that the compiling of the teaching material in the future should strengthen the knowledge and interesting of the material, the subjects should be follow the periodic law, the notes and interpretation of the new words should be improved, the proportion of the cultural teaching in the material should be added, scientific and technological means should be used to provide supporting material. The teaching material is seen as the basic to carry out teaching interaction, at the same time, the purpose is development and to cultivate the learners'comprehensive abilities.The author hopes that the study could provide useful information for the compiling of the teaching material of advanced Chinese newspaper reading in the future, and could facilitate the development of Chinese newspaper reading courses, thus, to improve teaching quality and efficiency.
