A Model For C-E International Business Contracts Translation

Economic globalization and China's entry into WTO make the business volume with foreigners increase quickly in China. Accordingly, international business contracts drafted in different languages are becoming more and more important for all the international affairs. Especially, English has been extensively used by different countries, so more and more contracts need to be translated either from C-E or E-C. It is, therefore, necessary to study contract translation from different perspectives.As one of the subordinate parts of applied and practical translation, the international business contracts translation has been studied from many perspectives such as stylistics and functional equivalence theory. We are glad to see that many translation strategies and principles have been put forward to guide the translation practice of international business contracts. The author here offers a new perspective - to study it by creating an international business contract translation model.Based on the features of English and Chinese international business contracts, the author conducts a systematic study on creating a model for international business contracts translation by integrating the macro-level theories of translation studies with the micro-level translation practice, and then make use of translation examples to verify the practicability of the model. The core of this thesis is the model for international business contracts translation which is presented as a flow chart in a visual way. Under the guidance of this model, the author firstly describes the general procedures for translator to conduct before doing the translation; secondly the translation brief of international business contracts will be analyzed; and then according to the communicative function, the author identifies the text type of international business contracts with the aim of exploring the translation strategies; at last the author probes into the principles and methods of translating international business contracts by detailed case analysis collected by the author to verify the practicability of this model; some advices for contract translators are also provided in this thesis.In a word, this thesis mainly studies the model for international business contracts translation, and then probes into its translation strategies, principles and methods in the hope of providing a general guide for the international business contracts translation.
