| As China is becoming an increasingly important economy in today’s world, its international trade with other countries has been booming ever before. The international trade cannot start without a business contract. As a vital bridge linking China and other countries in the world on business trade, contract translation poses a new challenge to international business people and business translators as well.Contract translation differs from the translation of other types of texts due to its unique stylistic features and functions. Translation skills depend upon the types of texts. Text typology is a great breakthrough and significant complement to the traditional translation theories. Since the theory of text typology was put forward, it has aroused a great attention among scholars both at home and aboard. In recent years, many Chinese scholars have applied such theory to the translation study and practice in various fields.This thesis studies the international business translation from the perspective of text typology. The author, firstly, makes a brief review of the business contract translation and introduces the theory of text typology proposed by Reiss and Newmark, then analyzes the linguistic features and functions of business contracts in terms of lexical, syntactic and text levels. Based on quite a few cases and translation examples, the author explores the application of the theory of the text typology to the translation of business contracts, and puts forward certain translation principles and skills.The research findings of this thesis may help to enrich the relevant theory and study of pragmatic translation, and render some insights to the drafting and translation of business contracts for export-oriented enterprises in China. |
