In the modern Chinese, compound words take a maximum proportion in all the glossary units. The internal structural relationship is one of the important problems focused by the whole linguistic field for a long time. From the 1920s until now, many linguists have done the research. This article has selected and introduced the main results of the scholars of the past and pointed out: the classification systems established before could not include all the compound words; moreover, there are many commonly used compound words which are easier to understand but more difficult to analyze. The difficulty of analyzing the inner structure originates the meaning of zi (å—) combined as constituent of each of the compound words which is keeping changing and therefore very difficult to grasp. Many Chinese speakers think that there are many compound words which are more or less the same with the lianmianci(inseparable two-zi word) the meaning of which is formed by its two constituents inseparable. This article puts forward such an idea that the the main reason of the difficulty of analyzing a compound word is the changing of the meaning of zi combined in it and people pay few attention to its inner structure in the daily life. Based on this, the article begins to explain some compound words which can be hardly analyzed by introducing Mr. Zhang Xu's theory about lianmanhua (inseparabilitiness) and by the way proposes my own understanding towards the status of zi.
