| There is a presence and absence issue when preposition used. The presence and absence of preposition concerns three style: the preposition must be present in the sentence; the preposition must be absent in the sentence; the preposition may or may not be present in the sentence. The first two kind conditions are the compulsion of the using of preposition, the last condition is the selectivity of the using of preposition.Whether a preposition must occur in a certain sentence is a difficult issue that concerns semantic, syntax and pragmatic. The text regards the grammars views of three levels as the foothold and systematically discusses the restriction factors of the presence and absence of preposition. The semantic restriction factors concern: the style of prepositional semantic and the typical of the semantic category of the words or phrases which introduced by preposition restrict the presence and absence of prepositional. The semantic factors are the most deeply and inherent. The syntactic restriction factors concern: the positions of preposition, the inside structure in prepositional phrase and the outside structure restrict the presence and absence of preposition. The syntactic factors are the superficial factors in the language construction. The semantic and syntactic factors are compulsive. The pragmatic restriction factors concern: the functions of making signs for the topics of preposition, the functions of connecting discourse of preposition and the functions of profiling focuses of preposition restrict the presence and absence of preposition. The pragmatic factors are non-compulsive. They are selective. |
