Graffiti art is an art form that develops on the basis of postmodernism; it represents as irrationalism in intellectuality, cynicism in morality, and hedonism in sensibility; it is an art form that occurred in 1960s and prevailed during 1970s and 1980s in the West. The spring up of graffiti art in such a short time has affected many aspects of our modern life. The main reason for us to do research on it is its rapid development and extensive influence. However, graffiti art and expressionistic art are greatly differ from each other in arts tradition and style. Being a mass culture and art phenomenon that related to pop art, graffiti art does not only evoke strong repercussion in the public, but also take an important part in contemporary art history.Graffiti art visual language's external formal characteristics and folk art characteristics are greatly consistent, which shows us that this non-mainstream art form has conscious subjective initiative, and graffiti art is an unseparatable art form of folk art. This dissertation focuses on graffiti art visual language's contents, characteristics and development trends. The research aim is to offer reference and arguement to people who will do research on this aspect. Understanding graffiti art accurately and objectively will surely raise graffiti art's value and social influence, and promote the diverse development of art forms.
