Traditional linguistics-oriented translation principle describes translation as the process of only language transformation, which ignores the transmission of cultural elements in the texts. As cultural elements are the essential part and concrete embodiment of a piece of literary works, the neglect of them leads to many problems in translation practice. Under such circumstances, some scholars begin to take cultural elements into consideration and culture-oriented translation principle is brought forward which defines translation as a process of cross-culture communication otherwise than that of sole language transformation. With the emergence of this new definition for translation, the treatment of cultural elements is imbued with vital importance. Yet the related transmission status and methods have not been intensively studied or systematically expounded, especially with Chinese literary works. Therefore, this thesis chooses a piece of Chinese literary works, Laoshe's Teahouse as its research object, intending to introduce rich Chinese literary creations to other countries in the world, analyze current cultural elements transmission status and find effective translation strategies from the theory level. To make new discovery, the thesis has combined current hot research topic"translator's subjectivity"in translation studies to illustrate how to treat cultural elements properly through comparing the presentation of subjectivities of two separate translators who have chosen to translate the same text Teahouse, which will provide new research aspects and angles for translation studies.
